The Famous Ring of Kerry Minimize

The world renowned Ring of Kerry follows the coastline of the Iveragh peninsula. Starting in the picturesque town of Kenmare we journey over the mountains passing by some of the most beautiful spots in the country. From Molls Gap we look down over the Black Valley to The Gap of Dunloe and from Ladies View the lakes of Killarney stretch out before us. From Killarney a tourist beauty spot since the visit of Queen Victoria in 1861 our tour takes us by Aghadoe and on through Killorglen where the famous Puck Fair is held each year in August.

Beyond Glenbeigh and Rossbeigh we can see peninsula of Dingle opposite with the Blasket Islands between it and us in Dingle bay. We follow the old disused railway line on to Cahrsieveen passing the birthplace of the Liberator Daniel O'Connell.

Next comes Waterville where Charlie Chaplan is honoured with a statue. On looking up to our left as we leave Waterville we see above us at Eighter Cua the standing stones said to the burial place of Sceine who gave her name to the estuary Einvear Sceine now Kenmare River. Looking out to our right as we wind our way up the hill we see the Skelligs out in the bay. We halt at the pass at Coomakiste with it¹s panoramic views on both sides .On the right below us on the seashore is Derrynane where Daniel O¹Connell grew up and spent most of his life with its beautiful sandy beach.

On our left we can see the Iveragh Peninsula opposite us. Coming down to Caherdaniel we head back for Sneem, a picturesque town, sharing with Kenmare the honour of winning the national tidy towns competition. Parknasilla graces the shoreline just off the the road to Kenmare. Here George Bernard Shaw came for inspiration while writing Pigmalion. We return to Neidin (The little nest ) or Kenmare from where we began.
